카이 치카코 KAI Chikako
[작가 노트]
‘우키요에’(ukiyo-e)와 ‘플레이 페인팅’(play painting – 떠 있는 세상의 그림들)의 영향을 받은 카이 치카코는 일본 회화의 기법을 사용하여 작품을 창작한다. 일상의 풍경과 일용품 속에 숨어 있는 ‘이상함’을 바탕으로, 그녀 자신을 둘러싼 삶의 어려움을 집중한다. 그녀 자신의 내면과 의도를 남에게 드러내는 것을 두려워했고, 의사소통을 잘하기 위한 ‘위선’이라는 불리는 기술을 자연스럽게 배웠다. 자신을 애매하게 만드는 ‘위선’의 의혹을 외면하면서, 필요악으로 그것을 받아들여야 한다는 갈등에 놓여 있었다. 이 작품은 인간의 본질적 욕망의 상징으로의 ‘파칭코(pachinko)’를 구성하여, 인간의 ‘위선적 행위’를 표현한 것으로, 이는 그녀 자신의 아름다운 기억들과 아름다운 부분들로 위선적 행위를 숨기기 위한 것이다.
[Artist Note]
Chikako Kai is influenced by ‘Ukiyo-e’ and ‘Play painting’. She creates artworks using the technique of Japanese painting. Based on the ‘strangeness’ hidden in everyday scenery and daily necessities, she focuses on the difficulty of living around her. She was afraid to show her inner self and intentions to others, and naturally learned a technique called ‘hypocrisy’ to communicate well. While she turned her suspicion of the ‘hypocrisy’ that obscured herself, she was in conflict that she had to accept it as a necessary evil. This work expresses human ‘hypocritical behavior’ by constructing ‘pachinko’ as a symbol of human essential desires so as to hide it with the beautiful memories and beautiful parts of herself.
