Mike Rijnierse (1974) is a Dutch artist and educator, graduated by the Artscience Interfaculty, at the Royal Academy of Art/Royal Conservatory, The Hague (KABK/Koncon, NL) in 2001. Since early, Rijnierse has investigated the phenomena of light and sound in relation to our senses. His works are instruments in which dialogue and interaction are developed for sensory investigation, as a platform for interdisciplinary research. Rijnierse has collaborated with a number of artists and institutions, participated in various media art exhibitions and festivals, throughout the Netherlands and abroad. In 2009 he began to teach at the Interactive Design school of Arnhem (ArtEZ, NL), where he developed the course ‘Design of Instruments’. With T odaysArt Festival, Rijnierse has presented various large scale site specifics, using the physical qualities of the city of The Hague. Other pieces that have been widely shown include ‘Lumokinese’ (kinetic light installation, awarded in 2008 by the BNG Project Prize) and‘CUBE’.
